Now here is a fascinating detail that you probably haven’t yet heard about the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs decision that was published on June 24. In the words of our local 40 Days for Life leader, Michele Mason:
God sometimes speaks to us in dates and numbers. Why do I say this? Please keep reading! You will see God’s reward to a faithful pro-life warrior at the end.
The Roe victory came from the grace of God and the prayer, dedication, and hard work of pro-lifers throughout the past 50 years. Many have passed away. Many more are with us and some are at an advanced age. Today we remember Nellie Gray.
This was shared by our 40 Days for Life friends in Green Bay:
Nellie Gray has been called the Joan of Arc of the Gospel of Life. In 1973, Nellie and a group of pro-life activists gathered to plan a memorial on the first anniversary of the horrific, unlawful Roe vs. Wade opinion. It is estimated that 20,000 people attended that gathering on Jan. 22, 1974.
We now know this “one time thing” as the March for Life.
Nellie emceed this magnificent cornerstone of the pro-life movement until her death at the age of 86 on August 12, 2012.
Please, do yourself a favor and take a few minutes to watch this tribute from pro-life leaders who speak to her legacy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ze-67BlveY&t=67s
It can be argued that Nellie gave birth to America’s passionate, and joy-filled pro-life movement. But what we didn’t mention was Nellie’s birthdate:
JUNE 24, 1924.
Rest in peace Nellie Gray.
Thank you, Lord, for the great gift to Nellie, to all of us, and especially to the preborn and their moms and dads!
