Are Abortions Decreasing in the U.S.?

According to multiple sources, including Abort, abortion in the United States has been decreasing for the last several years. This is undeniably great news for those of us who believe abortion to be a scourge on humanity and the ultimate insult to the sanctity of human life. While the numbers remain too high to declare victory, certainly, a downward trend inspires hope. That trend also begs the question, “why?”

For an engaging and thought-provoking look at the reasons behind this trend I highly recommend a two-part radio program recording. On two episodes of his program, Ready to Stand: Pro Life Radio out of Omaha, Nebraska, Cullen Herout recently discussed with Dr. Pat Castle, founder and president of LIFE Runners, a list of the top 10 reasons the number of abortions is decreasing across the U.S.

The first episode, here, presents reasons 10 – 7 including the facts that women regret abortion, that education about the reality of abortion is improving, that young people are becoming active in the movement to end abortion, and that Sidewalk Advocacy is very effective.

The second episode, here, presents the remaining reasons including the effectiveness of pro-life state laws, the decrease of abortion facilities and the increase of pro-life pregnancy resource centers, and the engagement of churches in the struggle. Dr. Castle even mentions a story about a courageous homily by a Colorado Springs local deacon.

I hope my quick overview here will inspire you to listen to these programs. I’m sure you will find them as inspiring and joy-filled as I did.
