The case of the 84-year-old grandma being shot by an angry abortion supporter is illustrative of how disregard for some human life leads to disregard for human life in general.
In brief, the 84-year-old woman was canvassing against abortion in Michigan when a resident of one of the homes she was visiting shot her as she was trying to leave the property, as noted in a LifeNews article about the incident.
The shooter insists the shooting was accidental even though he fired a “warning” shot before firing a second shot that hit her.
However, actions by the shooter and his wife afterwards betray the shooter’s claim that it was accidental.
As stated by the attorney for the woman who was shot: “Neither Sharon nor Richard Harvey [the shooter] expressed any concern for Ms. Jacobson, offered her any assistance, or said one word to her after she was shot. Ms. Harvey, who had her cell phone in her hand as she had earlier threatened to call the authorities, made no offer to call 911 after Ms. Jacobson was shot. Ms. Jacobson made it to the police station and was transported to a hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment. She is recovering from her wounds.”
Again, from the attorney: “There was no justification for shooting Ms. Jacobson,” Kallman [the attorney] said in his statement. “Mr. Harvey admitted firing a warning shot, so he knew the gun was loaded when he pointed it at my client. If it was truly an accident, why did neither of the Harvey’s express any remorse or even offer to assist Ms. Jacobson or call 911 immediately after shooting her? The answer is obvious: it was not an accident and Mr. Harvey should be held accountable.”
Sharon Harvey is an outspoken advocate of abortion and denigrates those who support life. Michigan Right to Life notes the following: “A look through Sharon Harvey’s public posts on her Facebook page is a sad tour of vitriolic rhetoric being repeated day, after day, after day, for years on end. This is a person who believes—like President Biden and Governor Gretchen Whitmer—that people like the victim who see things differently on abortion or other issues are a grave threat to the republic, who if not confronted and stopped will be shipping people off to concentration camps, will forever end democracy, and let women die left and right because of ectopic pregnancies. She believes people like the victim are basically the Taliban.”
With their support of abortion and consequent denigration of the humanity of children, Sharon Harvey and her husband end up denigrating the humanity of people who reject their denigration of children’s lives. In their minds the pre-born children and any who support their right to life are expendable, and in fact should be eliminated as “a grave threat to the republic.”
To say it differently, Sharon and Richard Harvey want to abort anyone whom they don’t want around.
Many people who support abortion share a similar predilection. With this worldview, every human life becomes vulnerable to the whim of whomever is in the most powerful position. Such is the culture of death.
Building a culture of life is not just about saving children. Building a culture of life is about saving humanity.
